According to the bible, He does have a purpose for all of us, that is, if we are able to trust Him. I fight with myself frequently, letting go and letting Him direct me. In the past, when I "listened" things always seemed to work for the best. When I wrench things away and try to do them on my own, I screw it up every time.
I saw a movie a couple of years ago that someone said that the word bible could stand for "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" and couldn't agree more. Even more so, they are instructions for living here on earth. If everyone would follow what was said by Jesus when asked what are the greatest commands "Love God with all of your heart, strength, soul and mind. And love your neighbor as yourself" (paraphrased) we would all get along a lot better. Just doing those two things would abide by most, if not all, of the 10 commandments. No adultery, no stealing, no coveting, no lying, etc.
I can say, as I finally broke down and starting reading the bible, instead of letting it gather dust on our coffee table as it has for most of my life, I am having a constant barrage of V8 moments , hitting myself on the head saying "If only I had read this book before". It has all the answers to the tests I have had in life.
It has told me to focus on doing what is right in life, regardless of what others do to me, just because He asked me (commanded). After doing this for awhile, I feel less animosity to others that I feel have wronged me.
