I think it will be important for you to initiate contact at some point(possibly in the near future)...I just think the timing right now is bad. He is confused right now and has decisions to make over the next week or so. No matter how impersonal your email would be he may see it as pressure. Let OW take that role right now. Let her be the source of stress for him. Don't give him any reason to take it out on you or project it on to you.
