I think you and fig should come up sometime in the middle of winter. I'll fill you ladies up with some liquid courage and take you out for an off land drive and cure this whole ice phobia thing... Fear not, they say that 3 feet of ice can support a freight train. My tractor weighs almost 5 tons and i've had it on the ice many times. A few years my friend was pulling fish houses off the lake with his backhoe that weighs over 7 tons. You just need to know where you're at and what the ice conditions are.

It's true that you hear about cars that go through the ice but it's usually some idiot that got lost and drove to close to a spring or water inlet or something.
