I know the convenience of the school being REALLY close but there is just no way you can make a smaller place larger. I would want the extra 500 feet! Now, does the one year old house have grass, driveway, fence? What about the brand new house. And most importantly - the yard. I think the yard and location make the place. How do these compare?
Whenever I have to make a really quick decision that is very important I make the pros and cons list. You can usually get your answer fast and clear.
No difference in price....I am looking at the bigger house tomorrow. Just googled the address from the school and the base I am stationed at and it is about a 10 minute difference drive....7 min to school versus 14 minutes at other house.....Old house.....no fence....has drive way, grass in the front....nothing in the back....not sure about the other place....the newer one.
Great news on the house. If you like it, I'd go for the bigger one. A fish always grows to the size of it's tank.
I'm not here often, but I do try to catch up on some of the threads. Apparently, I missed a big portion of yours because while I was gone, your ex turned super-looney toons and really is giving your kids a bad time. Sorry I missed all that drama. So glad the kids will get to live with you.
Can't believe we have all been here so long. Time flies when you're having fun, right?
Good luck on your house decision.

Fa: Besides making the Pros and Cons list I mentioned and the fact that 500 extra sq feet can make a HUGE difference - the one other thing is "feel". How do you "feel" when you are in each house? Does one make you feel more "homey" than the other. Do you see your furniture in there?
I bought a cottage 10 years ago (my best comparison). I went through about 10 cottages all on the same day. One stood out by feel so much more than the others. No - it was not the biggest, best or most expensive - it was actually the cheapest and I didn't decide by price. The pros and cons list worked out the best in that one but it was the "feel" that won out. At the end of the day I asked the kids which one of all of them they felt best about (they went through all with me). They, too, "FELT" that one was right. And to this day, every time I arrive there - I feel it is right.
Hope that helps. I've rarely bought other houses. Built 2 and bought 2 without looking at more than two. Some things just FEEL right.
maybe your kids could go with!!! Wouldn't that be fun for them...the feel like their ideas matter to a parent (I know they always matter to you but sounds like they haven't been getting that from their mom)
then they could feel the house was theirs too...you know???
