Hey HD, haven't posted in a while, but I still read now and then. I missed what went down with the moderator banning people, etc but I read that dozens of people have left and went to another forum. Do you know what other forum that is and whether or not that include the regular SSM posters?
"Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."
Which BB has everyone left to? I've managed to weather my SSM for the last year by applying the advice I read here. J and I are turning a corner, and the people who really know how to handle these issues have been run off
(sgctxok) The real expert is Michele Weiner-Davis.
What constitutes being a real expert? If Michele has published statistics on her success rate with SSMs, or with marriages experiencing active infidelity, I'm keenly interested in seeing them.

Btw--please DO NOT post email addresses...it is against board rules. sg
SG: According to the board rules of conduct, what is prohibited is "addresses." Clearly, the posting of email addresses is not prohibited:
Quote:
Why do you ask for two email addresses? The Email Address field is used for email notifications, forum subscriptions and to email your password. The Public Email Address field is what other users see when they view your profile. We realize that you may not want everyone to know your real email address, but we need to know it in case you want to subscribe to a forum or if you want to have replies emailed to you. For this reason you can give us your real email address in the Email Address field and only the Administrators of the board will see it. You can provide a different email address for the general public using the Public Email Address. Some people like to put in something like scream@no.spam.yahoo.com. This way people can still figure out what your real email address is, but spamming agents can't just parse through the page and obtain your email address to spam you.
From the FAQ. Of course there are some guidelines in your Rules of conduct that may be viewed as contradicting the above:
Quote:
- Participants shall not post any material that is likely to cause offence, protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right - without the express permission of the owner of such copyright - or that contains personal contact information, phone numbers or addresses.
Standard contract interpretation requires that, if two provisions can be read consistently, then that is the intent of the drafter. Because the site's guidelines speak specifically to "email addresses" and the latter provision deals with "addresses," it can only be read consistently by viewing the word "addresses" as something other than an email address. Seems pretty obvious that what is being contemplated here is the restriction of the sharing of someone's street address. This is good advice, by the way.
Most people can share an email address without running afoul of the rule against sharing personal information.
I also note that specific advice on formatting an email address to be "clickable" is included in the FAQ.
If you want to prohibit users from posting their email addresses, I suggest you change the Rules of Conduct.
- Participants shall not post any material that is likely to cause offense, is protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right - or that contains personal contact information, phone numbers or addresses
email address also fall under: "personal contact information"
