W is being selfish. This is not news. That is par for the course it seems. Don't let it get to you.

Things will work out. If that means D has some loans, then she's in the same boat as most of the world. Or it means she works a little. It's not the end of the world. It certainly doesn't preclude her from merit-based scholarships and it certainly won't stop her from going to college. You will provide for her as best you can and that is what matters.
