Yes Summer:

As I wrote my post to you I also wondered if it is harder for us who grew up with the most wonderful dads - to realize our kids didn't get that. I am so lucky that my dad has an enormous impact on my children.

Like your father, mine has always done a lot of volunteer work and been held in high esteem in our community. He is totally the person who was a role model for me and he is the reason I "got involved". I remember being asked to be the United Way Board President. I said to Dad - "They asked the wrong person - I can't do that". He told me I totally had it in me and he would help me in any way that he could. I also saw the pride on his face as I took office and later as he sat on the board that I chaired for a record 3 years. Dad never missed a meeting!

I hold your neighbour in highest esteem. Nancy Drew was highest on my list of Favs when I grew up. All my girlfriends were into her and we all collected and shared the books. The series sits on the bookshelf in Ashley's room at the cottage. One favourite childhood memory is that my best friend, Kathy and I had a quarrel at age 9 while she was reading #8 - "Nancy's Mysterious Letter". I told her to give me back the book and she would NEVER read it. To this day I have not allowed her to read it (it has become a long standing joke between us). When she and her husband visited the cottage, I would not allow her to sleep in Ashley's room - she might try to read that book!

Ahhh.... the good memories of our lives.

18 months ago I invited 2 of my closest childhood friends (including Kathy) and we went out for dinner followed by the Nancy Drew Movie. Boy - it brought it all back for us - "George and Bess" "Carson Drew". Even "Ned Nickerson". It was cute!
