I think your reply back was really good too! I know exactly what you mean about the awkward politeness and avoidance! That is exactly how my H tries to act! I am sometimes pretty good though at breaking through it (we still live together) because I tend to be goofy and dance around and stuff and sometimes I can break through the wall he tries to erect.
