Funny how being their friend can erase all of the sh@tty things they've said and done. (at least in their minds!) It's no quite so easy for us to forgive and forget.
Yeah well their will be lots more guilt gifts for a while so prepare yourself. It used to always piss me off especially when I knew I couldn't compete because he had the checkbook. Guess what? In the big scheme of things none of that matters. So let him spend away.
