WAW filed on 11/21/07. Pre trial meeting was on 2/5/08. I represented myself. WAW attorney shows up and we go into see the administrator. For those who don't know the pre trial meeting is where you and your spouse exchange verified personal and finanacial statements, agree on the timing for discovery, set the settlement and divorce dates. I had been dreading this day as it would set the milestones that would mark the end of my marriage.
Administrator looks at me and says "so where are we". I ask for clarification and she said are "you and your wife still getting divorced"? I clear my throat and say no, in fact we are in marital counseling and it is my hope to reconcile. The administrator says that would be ideal and she looked at the details of our case. Married 22 years one adult and one minor son. The administrator said "it sounds like you need more time". How about a continuance for two months? I said that I would be grateful but don't know if my wife would agree. She looks at my wifes lawyer and says "how bout it"? Her lawyer says without hesitation-yes and that was that.
The administrator then said "even though we are in the divorce business it is our hope that many of theses cases can reconcile. She thanked me for showing up and I left. Very marriage friendly.
I have an additional two months to DB, GAL and focus on making improvements to myself. My WAW was irritated that she wasn't asked prior to the extension but so far is not fighting it.
My first experience turned out to be a good one. Anyone else have legal stories?
