RJ, yes it does go inside the quotation mark in the US. In the UK, it goes outside. Go figure. Don't they know we won the war? ;\)

Good mantra, corri!

Okay RJ: ankle question. The knee of my good leg is feeling very achy and stressed, and when I sit down, just as my butt reaches the chair, there's a sharp pain in my knee. Also, after walking all day in my boot, my left ankle is achy. Was that your experience? I had lunch with a friend today who was in a boot for a while-- she didn't have to have surgery on her ankle, and she said her right knee bothered her after a while.

I see the doc next Monday.

Lil, Walking in The Boot ( yes, it deserves a capital B) can cause strain in varying parts of the body because your gait is thrown off balance. The Boot is heavy, clumsy, and adds a few extra inches...I don't think it's meant to be used for a lot of walking. I only used the Boot for protective purposes. Are you using crutches to support your weight? That may help.

On Monday, my guess is that your doctor will tell you to change to walking shoes. How many weeks has it been since the surgery?

I'm using a cane, not crutches.

Monday it will be exactly 10 weeks since the surgery. He did tell me I will be putting on regular shoes. I wonder if my MBT walking shoes will be acceptable.

Thanks, Dr. RJ. Were you really able to not walk and pretty much stay off your leg for all that time?

Lil, I don't know anything about the MBT shoes. As I recall, the first pair of walking shoes/sneakers I had were in a wide width...I just laced up the good foot more tightly.

I was pretty good about staying off the leg. I made a few mistakes here and there, but overall, I was a compliant patient.

I think you are doing really well. I haven't head from you what it was like when you began to walk for the first time, so I am assuming it was a non issue. I remember having trouble. I had to will myself mentally to walk. I also had pins-n-needles senstations when I stepped down, and it took awhile for that to get better. You are sailing though, in comparison!

Yikes. Don't get him fired, Lil. There's all kinds of policies about faculty/student relations.

Just make sure you tell him that you broke your ankle kicking your last BF to the curb. ;\)

Hey Lil, sounds like you are doing great. I will add my voice to the cheering mob.

The Grammar war continues.

Of course not. The sentence in its entirety begins with Can't wait... and ends with ...the Prof" once you have finished the sentence you put the full-stop (period). If "Lil and the Prof" were a sentence (which it isn't because it's the title of a story) then you might want to put two full stops, one to finish the sentence within the quotes and one to finish the entire sentence.

I'm afraid the American rule just smacks to me of a simplistic, one-size fits all, this is just the way we do it rule rather than a rule that makes any sort of sense. The UK rule makes sense because what happens within the quotes is internally coherent. Which is something I think we can all aspire to ;\)

Geez, hairdog, you take all the sport out of it! \:\(

You're remembering that the ONLY relationship I had in four years of Catholic girls' high school AND four years of Catholic women's college was with a professor when I was a senior in college. And that this man called me the year after my H died-- 30 years after I had last seen him-- and wanted to pick up where we left off. He had heard my voice on the Diane Rehm Show one morning FIVE YEARS PREVIOUSLY and looked up my phone number. (He lives in another state), and called, coincidentally, a year after I became a widow. Guess I made an impression on hin, huh? ;\) But I digress...

Okay, here's what past students wrote on the "rate my professors" web site (note that the only one who didn't like him is illiterate):

Quote:
*ok, many like this teaher. i dont know why. i couldn't stand HIM and his BIG bag of B.S. he is good@ graphic arts but that doesn't nessesairly mean he's good at teaching. he's REALLY picky and hard to understand. and his projets were boring. And talks WAAY too much! i passed, but still. i wouldn't take him again.everyday was a drag.

*the best graphic arts teacher at [the college]. more helpful and knowledgeable than all the other teachers combined. very passionate about his subject, he actually knows what he is doing. take him if you really want to learn. he should teach all graphic arts classes.

*[The Prof] is a digital design god. he is an open book of knowledge. Accept any opportunity to talk with him. And he is hot too.

*One of the best instructors I have ever had. I would take him again and again. I have learned more in his class than I ever have in any other class. Don't miss a chance to take him!

*An amazing, inspirational instructor that will teach you everything he knows with passion. I learned more in his class than every other class combined. Will push you to your limits, not easy, but fair. The first professor at [the college] that actually teaches graphic design as it should be taught. Teaches afternoons only [sic], Typography and Digital Paint.

I declare the comma wars ended. I surrender.
