I liked the books by Lisa Scottoline....murder/mystery...also the books by James Patterson. I read the Mitford Series by Jan Karon...totally different kind of books. I've read alot of the Oprah book club books....(quite awhile ago). There was a series about a medical examiner (Dr. Kay Scarpetta) I liked, but I don't remember the author. I've read John Grisham and Dean Koonz, Carl Hiaassen is hilarious...I like all kinds of books, just not romance novels....especially not now! There were also two or three books about a hit man that were very entertaining, funny really even though the main character was a hit man, you liked the guy...the first one was called Hit Man...but I don't remember that author either.
FW: I will check out the books by Robert Crais...they sound like they are right up my alley! Thanks!

A few people mentioned walking and I have a suggestion that may for some be their 'something new' for 2008:
Nordic Walking Poles (also known in my house as dork sticks and nerd poles)
I got some last spring and I LOVE them! They give your walk an extra boost without feeling like you're working really hard. I even have muscle definition between my shoulder blades now (and a year ago I had those lovely back fat things - WTF are those, anyway?)
If you can't find any in a local outdoor store, they are available on line.
Walking got me started on my weight loss last March. I trained to walk in a 5 K for my office and ended up walking/running it....the running was only about 10 minutes at a time....but it was fun! I'm training this year to run the whole thing....we'll see....I don't like running up hill and here in the Rockies, it's hard to find flat ground! I probably lost 10 pounds maybe more between March and May just by walking.
The MLC stress diet caused the excessive weight loss from August til now.

ba - if you liked the Scarpetta books, I think you would like the books by Kathy Reichs - not QUITE as gruesome, but about a forensic anthropologist. There are some great books by an American who lives in Venice, called Donna Leon, about an Italian detective, who is very simpatico. And The Jane Austen book club [now a film I think] is a nice light read.
I have started reading Japanese novels, which are different . . .
