I don't think you need to talk to him about that. He can SEE that you are working on the relationship, you don't have to tell him. If he doesn't see it, he either doesn't want to see it, or, perhaps, you need to look at what you are doing. Neither of which requires talking to him about it. (Remember, at this point working on the relationship is working on yourself!)
