Alone tonight, except for my trusty Border Collie, who loves nothing better than to lay on my feet. (unless it is a milkbone, and then to lay on my feet.)

Thinking about her, and how special the love of a good dog can be.

From George Gordon Lord Byron.

"Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains of one
Who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
If inscribed over human ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a Dog,
Who was born at Newfoundland, May, 1803,
And died at Newstead Abbey, Nov. 18, 1808."

Upon the actual memorial was printed...

When some proud son of man returns to earth,
Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,
The sculptor's art exhausts the pomp of woe
And storied urns record who rest below:
When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been:
But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his master's own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonour'd falls, unnoticed all his worth--
Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth:
While Man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive Heaven.
Oh Man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power,
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye! who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on--it honours none you wish to mourn:
To mark a Friend's remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one,--and here he lies.

How much can I learn from her.....

New thread now, thanks to everyone who has helped me along.

These are my friends now!

But someday baby...
You ain't worry my life anymore

Take away, take away what I don't need, save the good part please. Fade away, fade away.

That is beautiful and sad at the same time.

I am propped here in my bed with my faithful sweetheart by my side. No not H (notice I said faithful) but my daschund, Malcolm. He never used to sleep with me except on really cold nights but since H moved out sleeps pressed up against my side every night. He's quite a comfort - all 10 pounds of him! \:\)

I've got a Lab/Rott mix that thinks she's as light and dainty as a feather. All 95 lbs of her. I think on some level they know how loved and valued they are. I sure hope so.

Dakota my faithful American Eskimo dog.
Anyone who has ever owned an eskie can tell you about an "Eskie hug". Its when they stand on their back paws and wrap their front paws around your arm while you pet them.

Checking in on you; how are things going?
I love my dog, too. Very much. He's the one little man I know won't break my heart.
Hugs.

When asked whom I had lost in the past 3 years that I could ask back into my life.... It was my Lt. Dan. A beautiful Corgi who loved me greater than the 'ex' that I lost. And was more of a man. Noble, kind, loving and fierce. He hated my discipline, but listened with respect and was treated with respect. He tried me at every cost in my home, but minded my every request without a leash in public. Just by speaking to him. Extremely intelligent.

What a lovely tribute to this type of nobility.

My golden does that too. Maybe he thinks he is an eskie?

Named after Gary Sinise's character in "Forrest Gump"?
