This is nice. A red flag with my bf that I ignored was the lukewarm lackluster hug he gave me after our first "date," a five-hour conversation that started with a two-hour transaction where I bought this computer, and followed by three hours at Bennigan's.

A nice "Mmmmmm" when hugging is HIGHLY appropriate for a rural cafe IMHO. At least it would be in Texas, though maybe not in Michigan. I can practically smell the chicken fried steak and coffee!

The mushroom hunter was actually pretty sexy. About 6'2" with shoulders probably more than 3 ft. across (yummy). He runs a steel mill and told me straight-up that he used to be an alcoholic and was AA/dry for 15 years. Plus he said "Mmmmmm" when he hugged me goodbye even though it was vaguely inappropriate for the rural coffee shoppe we met at.

Must have been smelling the ....... brownies. Or the vanilla latte.

Nothing against mushroom hunters. My mirth stemmed from the oddity of the grouping. Fat people, people with comb-overs, and mushroom hunters. *giggles more*

My mind works in mysterious ways. Which is why I so often amuse myself.

Well, it wasn't exactly what I would call a "nice" "Mmmmmm". Of course, it might be the case that what I was wearing wasn't entirely appropriate for a rural cafe either (but dang cute IMO). Also, it might have been the case that when he e-mailed me that he was a "professional man with a hint of the wild", I e-mailed back that we should be compatible because I was a "wild woman with a hint of the professional." Which is why you see I am still in sad need of a duenna (sigh).

I behaved a bit better on my fun phone date with another guy last night although I did go into hysterics when he told me what he thought I meant when I wrote "If I wanted to paddle my own canoe, I would just buy a kayak." in my profile. Analogies can be dangerous.

Okay. I read the article. I found myself saying, about halfway through, a line that I hadn't thought about since I was a middle class college student: "I wanna be black."
Warning. Offensive lyrics ahead.
This is a song to which my roommate in college introduced me. It is by Lou Reed. We used to sing the lines to some of the black guys on our floor, and they would crack up. It's a different world today, but just be warned...the lyrics are...raw. And politically incorrect, of course.

I wanna be black, by Lou Reed.

I wanna be black, have natural rhythm
Shoot twenty foot of jism too
And f@#k up the jews

I wanna be black, I wanna be a panther
Have a girlfriend named samantha
And have a stable of foxy whores
Oh, oh, I wanna be black

I don’t wanna be a f#@ked up
Middle class college student anymore
I just wanna have a stable of
Foxy little whores
Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
Oh, oh, I wanna be black
Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black

I wanna be black, wanna be like martin luther king
And get myself shot in the spring
And lead a whole generation, too
And f@#k up the jews

I wanna be black, I wanna be like malcolm x
And cast a hex
Over president kennedy’s tomb
And have a big prick, too

Oh, I don’t wanna be a f#@ked up
Middle class college student no more
Yeah, I just wanna have a
Stable of foxy little whores

Yeah, yeah, I wanna be black
I wanna be black
I wanna be black etc.

Good luck, HD.

I wish I hadn't posted that article because I don't really agree at all with the perspective of the writer although I do agree with some of what she says. The fact of the matter is that due to our lame racist society, a black man has to be a MAN or he isn't anything. He has no choice in much the same way a soldier in the trenches has no choice. While I was dating GP, he caught his S12 in a minor theft and he sent him away to a boot camp for two weeks. He didn't have the luxury of being liberal or lax because his son could so easily end up dead or in prison.

Have you ever watched an awards show and some guy goes up to collect his trophy and he says something like "I'd like to thank my beautiful wife for all her support." and it seems like he really means it and the camera shows the wife and maybe she isn't really beautiful in some objective sense but subjectively she seems beautiful right then? I can't really explain it well but part of the attraction between black men and white women is that there is a natural tendency towards a sort of conspiracy of admiration or validation or support. A strong desire to "look good" and "do well" together because so many would love to see you fail.

Happy New Year Mojo! Looks like we'll spending a portion of our first day of '08 shoveling snow....remind me again why I moved back, when I could be basking in the sun on my boat and dinner was simply a matter of hopping overboard and snagging a lobster or two. Oh yeah, I almost forgot....moved back for the weather and vast array of potholes \:\/

Be safe and good luck searching for them mushrooms

Hey IC:

Happy New Year to you buddy. Hopefully, in 2008, you will be seriously working on 'What Makes IC Happy.' ;\)

So sorry about your recent struggles. All of 'em. Be good to yourself, kiddo. I'm rooting for you, evening if I am not directly posting. I suppose if I see a need for the Pointy Witch Shoes, I'll bring 'em on... but... you seem to be doing fine on your own. Which... I knew you would.

Big New Year's Hugs to you, Mrs. IC and the little ones.

Thanks Kid and Happy New Year to you too and everyone else out there. I would have tracked you down on one of these threads to wish in the new year but you found me instead.

Thanks for the well wishes...we're making progress. Still lots of deep dark murkey waters to tread but regardless of the outcome, I'm not very good at drowning ;\)

Boyz still kickin azz and taking names in hockey?

As is I don't have enough irons in the fire, got something in the works for next winter (health & rehab permitting)....couldn't stay away from the game long \:\/ The return is just going to be in a different capacity ;\) Details to come....{unless Miss IC pushes me in front of a bus...didn't really think this whole life insurance, ONS thing out too well did I? Corri, you still want to hold onto that "your a smart boy" theory???} Before anyone gets all up in arms at my seemingly cold poke at humor with Miss IC...she's the one that brought it up and had a chuckle \:\)

IC:

If you decide to run a hockey camp, tell me when and where. Both boys will be present. That would be so cool. \:\)

My oldest son... well... let's just say... this is the first year I wouldn't miss a game because I so enjoy watching what he might do... every other year has been out of mother dedication, you know? This year... he's soooooo cool. I keep thinking... 'wow, that's MY kid. Did you see that???!!! MY KID. How cool. \:\) \:\) \:\)

My youngest is gaining his legs... still has some work to do... but Mr. Assist is what they still call him. \:\)

Both teams are whomping assss... both should be one level higher, but no one asked me... \:\(
