H has had many a run in with priests. He likes some, dislikes others. He understands the need for hierarchy but hates the way the church uses it to hide things they shouldn't, punish people with legitimate points and such.

i infer from the rest of your post, that he does attend church, "as mandated by the Catholic church", ie: once a week?
