The truth is painful and people run from it. I've experienced this more professionally than personally, but I've not filtered my honest opinion about decisions/items to do with my job. I'm polite, but blunt. I've noticed that if it's not a popular opinion or contrary to group wisdom it's ignored (and, not to sound arrogant or anything, I'm right way more often than I'm wrong).
Anyway, I'd much prefer complete, unvarnished honesty than being strung along. Having been strung along, the truth would have been much less painful.

Edit: And, I'll just say, as soon as I find someone willing to accept and give honesty, I'll start seriously consider putting a ring on that womans's finger.
