Lil, My sitch was a bit different from yours in that I was admitted to the hospital right away ( well not right away, there were no beds so I had to stay on a gurney in the ER for 24 hrs). They gave me a shot of something initially and then again when they set the dislocations...after that I was given oral medication every 4-6 hrs or something like that. When the orthopedic surgeon came in, he was shocked at the inadequate pain coverage, and immediately ordered a morphine pump, and thereafter was MY HERO. He could do no wrong...even when he bumped my surgery til the next day, and then declared that it was too swollen to operate, and pushed it off for 2 more days. I just kept pushing the button. I then stayed in the hospital for a few more days, and bid a tearful farewell to my friend the pump.
At home I took ATC percosets and aleve, and when I did not stay on top of the pain, it felt like my foot was on fire. I did the icing as much as I could those first 2 weeks. I felt better around the third week. I fell into a depression on week 4.
I kept a journal of it all and I will try to dig it up.
