Mark, the dog thing did it for me. She is not all the way here. That is beyond reality for her to actually believe you would do that to an animal.
She doesn't consciously believe it. She clings to the thought if only to say to herself, "Well, I may have cheated, but look at what my alternative was!!!" These types of things assuage her guilty conscience. As I understand it, it's typical of a cheating spouse to think like this.

It does not matter. These are children, not rational adults. They have been taught that if an adult says something, it's probably true. And if their mother says that their father is pondering poisoning the dog, then it must be true. This is what set me on edge. Damn her for bringing these people into our family.
