Sorry Nomo, Big Noise is something one of my Partners used to say all the time and it stuck when I talk to someone with a strong personality or is a "hitter" in our biz. I would say Big Swinging ..... but that is another IBanking term that could be confused although may be totally true!

Hey Nomo, I've seen that nose, and it is indeed sexy---very striking, lots of strong character!

CVA, I'm gaining an entirely new lexicon from you! Pusher, closer, hitter, Big Noise, Big Swinging... very cool. Now give me the definitions.

Take care, all.

While I appreciate the compliments CVA and GD, Puddle just made my day. Hell, she made my whole month for that matter.

Puddle
These are all pretty easy:
Pusher - one who pushes all the time, never lets up, relentless on everything, that would be me, Nomo, Sunny?, Puddle?
Closer - can close a deal, any deal, biz or personal ;\)
Big Noise - Big personality, Cool, always on his game
Big Swinging.../ Hitter - No, not what you think, "the man", In control of all situations in biz, The boss, whatever

Do you see a theme - pretty much Type A Lawyers, Bankers, etc....

Safe bet that at least the people I know on this board, myself included, have been called one of these if not all...

The Pusher concept, at least for me, comes from this line of psychotherapy that basically says we are all made of different parts or personalities. We manage the different parts (or need to). The Pusher part of us is the part that gets us to do things. It is important, and is responsible for much of our success. In many of the Type A lawyer/IB types CVA describes, the Pusher part begins to play too dominant a role. In my case, starting when I got out of law school, and then even more after I got married and especially after kids, my Pusher part went from being in control close to 50% of the time to running the show about 95% of the time. My other primary part, Fun Nomo, was rarely in charge any more, as it had been much of the time through college and even grad school. I have been successful in bring Fun Nomo back in the driver's seat much of the time. Or at least out of the shadows. A common therapy technique used to help people get in tough with their different parts is "voice dialogue therapy." There is a webiste by this couple (therapists) who have led the charge in this area. They have tapes on the various common voices - Pusher, Warrior, etc. Interesting stuff. If you search the web you can find their series of tapes/DVDs, or I think I have a link somewhere.
