I have no doubt why she wants to do the small family thing at home...fewer questions from the kids (do they know you might be getting divorced?), aleviates her guilt at the thought of you being alone, but also gets her out of whatever uncomfortable situation she would be in if you did come to her family's celebration.

maybe its just me, but that's how I read it.

I'm sorry, mark, this all just stinks.

She has no guilt about me being alone. But I agree that she would be uncomfortable in the family situation, and knows that I would not be.

And yes. It stinks. My situation. Yours... all of 'em...

I doubt she has real guilt, but she sure can break her arm patting herself on the back about what a great gal she is, making sure you are all taken care of.

She has guilt for having committed adultery. Not for having hurt me.

She is being cautious because she doesn't want me to drift too far from the dock. There is a danger if I drift too far, and she is left alone on the dock. And there's sharks in the water....
