In this case since they already know ans still invited you then I see no reason to go. If fact I think if you did not go this may leave a bad impression on them. Who knows what the W will tell the the reason you are not there.
I know what you mean about the clock and fence sitting. My W is not mean like yours and she has come along way but the non commital and the unspoken words can somethimes hurt just aa much aa yelling.
