Regarding your H's "friend," are you sure this has been ongoing or is it new? Sure, logically, that would explain all/most of his behavior, but it could be new. If it's not, and you can prove it, the angry batard in me says take him to the cleaners.
Also, if your H is spending money frivilously, is there any way you can protect yourself from that?
In a wierd way, this discovery had to be somewhat of a relief for you. Confirmation of it's not you, it's him.
