Hey just caught up FLTC. Birthdays are tricky. I guess all communication becomes tricky so let's presuppose it seems best to be detached. So what would a detached aquantance do? probably send a benign message. If you reconcile, this is a good symbol as it is thoughtful and that is what she complained about. If you become single then acts of civility foster a smoother transition into divorce I guess.
Just don't get offended too easily by her communication about the holidays. No on can guess how hard it is for you and if you spell it out, that makes it hard also. Give her trhe benefit of the doubt that she is not trying to hurt you, she is just being ignorant or at least just tryig to remind you of better times with the kids.
