Indeed, you deliberately go to some lengths to keep them in the dark about your ability to be sage . If they knew how wise you really were they would expect and demand far more from you. And you are not so silly as to let that happen! You have weighed up, very carefully, the element of risk in your current situation. You are handling it well.
