Just wondering if anyone out there has some advice or experiences they can discuss.

My WAW has found a local lawyer that does mediation and would like to set up a meeting with him to start the ball rolling. Has anyone had good / bad experiences with mediation?

Would it be better to retain a lawyer for myself and tell her that she needs to be the one to file? I'm leaning in this direction to ensure my best interests are considered. She is the one pushing for the D as it is not something that I agree with.

My WAW also mentioned mediation. However, when I spoke with a mediator he suggested that we each retain our own attorney as well. My whole point of getting a mediator was to save $, so we decided to go with one attorney for the both of us as we have sold our house and only need to divide the assets and debt.

Not sure of your sitch or the laws in your statte. Are you civil with your WAW? As you have children involved, it could get complicated. Not sure I am of the greatest help as I have not even filed yet either, but I decided to forego the mediator route.

Good luck.
