I probably would take the high road, perhaps say something like "So, we finally meet"...with my best psychologist looking at a real head case expression and tone of voice!
Nothin' makes crazy people more uncomfortable than thinking they're being assessed by a knowledgable shrink
Oh and about the hang-ups. They were driving me insane too, we finally got caller ID which helps some as at least I now know that the majority are telemarketers!
