A., I think it's that, but I also think maybe it's an effort to affirmatively assert that they are still connected to life, that they are a part of things, that they aren't as out there as deep down they really know they are, and as they know they appear to others.
Pedro was much the same way about his son's wedding. I ran into him a couple of times in advance, and he would say, "Son is getting married."
Um, yeah, I did know that, I'm the second person he told, before he told you...
And then at the wedding his greeting to me was, "I'm glad he invited you."
Invited me?
Baby, again, when son called me to tell me he was engaged, in the next breath he said, "And you have to be there, OK, and it's going to be in AZ, so start planning now, because you have to be there."
They're just so lost...trying to fit the pieces of their life together with this false reality that they have created, and clearly, those things are not going to fit together.
