Anyway, I had done accounting for a while, got married, and started was working on a PhD in accounting, but missed part of my comprehensive exam, and my brain was mush. Then I went really crazy and got a degree in chemical engineering. Realized that wasn't my calling (are we seeing that maybe IMP knows what MLC looks like) and got a master's in tax and worked at a small firm during tax season. Bomb. A working at PwC in corporate tax until 9/11. I was nuts then between getting dumped and hating the work. The job I am on now is as a software QA (we do personal income tax software) and none of the tax work was in vein. Actually my best experience was at the small firm where I did tons of personal returns from a variety of states.
It was a long road getting where I am today, doesn't pay a ton, but I am happy and that's what matters.
And now that I have played in the sand, I shall come back even though I am not used to the piecing board!
Glad you came and visited - I didn't get much of a chance to check in here today - I shall come back tomorrow. Being in the UK I am on a slightly different time scale!!!
Interesting history. My degree was law and then went into tax as it paid well and wanted to be near H. Didn't want to be in family law or conveyancing. I qualified most of the way and then bombed at senior management level to have kids - was doing my job plus two assistants work and just decided kids were easier
Started my own business to keep my hand in but hate it. Hav gradually let it die and just keep on those clients that became friends. Am going to stop soon completely. I need a new direction.
Like you taste in music too!!!

It is never to late to change. What do you think you would like to do?
For me, it is amazing that I have been doing the same job for 4 years now without complaining! It may not be as financially rewarding but what's money if you aren't happy. Besides with less money, I can only afford a decent apartment so I don't have to worry about mowing lawns and fixing broken furnaces.
Speaking of music, you should see my sons and me when Bohemian Rhapsody!!!

I bet that's a site to behold. I love Rock music. My H is a big ZZ Top fan but I am more Queen, Led Zep....
I'm not sure what to do. I want to use my brain but I don't want something that takes me over like my career did before children. I am trying to work out if that is possible. It might be my personality that's the problem. My H and I were saying that in principle I want the responsibility of stacking shelves but I am the sort of person who if I started doing that would be unable trying to resist taking over the store within 6 months.
I love my horse and am good with animals but I cannot go back now and retrain to be a vet as I don't have the time or the funding. I just don't know if being an equine nurse would be enough. I am reading books about job fulfillment and career changes at the moment.
Also after many years at home I need to work on my self esteem. I find what you did very interesting because it was obviously not an easy journey back in to the work place. Did you find it hard to keep a PMA with it all?
I totally agree about the money thing and am lucky that I don't HAVE to work but I think I may need to for me because of my children growing older. I do need to cover enough though for any childcare costs - my youngest is only 9 - and also someone to give me cover on my horse when I can't do her because of working.
And then there's the guilt that my others will have all had the benefits of having a stay at home mom until they reached secondary school, but my youngest wouldn't have had if I go back to work now......
