whenever I do compliment h...he just negates it...

many many times...
I complimented him as a father...he said he still has some learning to do.

just last night I told him he was a great h and he again said he wouldn't use the word great.

I try to compliment him as often as I can...

when he calls I thank him...he thinks it's silly..but I really do appreciate his calls just to say hi.

I thank him for cleaning up the mess the kids make...

I used to thank him for making my tea in the am..and he eventually said one morning...you don't have to keep thanking me..
