Being much older that you Hope, I'm not sure long hair looks that great on me but, then I would hate to look frumpy ya' know.
I don't know if it looks great on me either. According to my mom, I'm too old for my long hair and I need to get a more grown up haircut. I do understand it being a big decision, but it will grow back. I had a chin-length bob 3 years ago and now it is down to the middle of my back. I personally like longer hair. Believe it or not, I think it's easier.
