Morning SB,

I hope everything is well, and I did not get you in trouble with my post a week or so ago. I have no clue what got into me.

My apologies.

SB - thanks for your post. Your family sounds like mine - of my three siblings, two have thyroid disease (one also has a couple other autoimmune diseases) and the third never goes to the doctor!

A medical recommendation for you - if you haven't done it already, ask your doctor to check not only your thyroid levels but check you for thyroid antibodies. Although the presence of thyroid antibodies doesn't guarantee you will develop clinical disease, it makes it far more likely - and if I had a patient with a family history like yours and positive antibodies, I would be a lot more suspicious of any thyroid levels that were near the "border" of normal.

What's the presence of thyroid antibodies mean? Is it part of the T3/T4 tests they do for hypothyroid?

Hugs.

Hi Sage,

You mean you didn't pick your "name" because you knew you were wise? (as in "sage advice! )

FINALLY! An opportunity to clarify this -- Sage is a nickname from when I was a kid -- it's a (very loose) derivative of my first name. I can PROMISE you it has nothing to do with wisdom... My younger sister calls me "parsley" on occasion!

Very cool! Congrats on that.

I'm glad to hear that things are going well!

Hi All,

Thanks for stopping by Ellie and Shay (Will and Sage too, of course!). Thanks for the tip, Ellie, my GP never seems too worried when I mention the family history. Autoimmune disorders rule in my family. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at 22.

I figured I'd start a new thread this evening. My general anxiety won't let me just wait until this one gets blocked out .

Having trouble with a title, though...hopefully something will come to me soon. I'm gonna try creating the new thread right now. H is prepping dinner .

Shinybear,

Actually, your post seems to have a calmness about it.
