I think you should do what YOU want to do-which I think is get a house. You're sick of that apartment. Don't worry about her reaction, and whether it wil backfire. She kicked you out. If she doesn't want you getting a house, let her either (1) switch places with you or (2) invite you back home. Now, having said that, I think you should have a calm discussion with her in which you inform her of your decision and reasons. They are your joint finances, and she deserves to know an out this big financial decision. But I see you telling her that the apt arrangements are not acceptable, not reasonable for you to maintain.
