You need some space of your own. If this is really what your W wants then she'll understand that you can't have the kids in a 1 bedroom apt. Maybe you could rent a house for now and then buy later? Honestly, I don't think you should have to "ask" if you can buy a house. But that's just my opinion, nothing based on DB, so take it fwiw.
