Does any one have a good train of thought on what would make a bitter and resentful W give up a "happy" relationship with OM some time down the road?

Aren't we selling our selves short by being the "fall back" when the other R dies for whatever reason?

It seems so degrading to be my W's friend while she sees OM and has taken my kids and our 11 year marriage away from me.
