Well, tonight was the first time that he referred to himself as my "ex-husband" during a conversation (what it was about is irrelevant). That kind of stung

Maybe he was testing the water to see how you would react. Maybe he needed to hear how it would sound to him in order for him to process some more thoughts. I can imagine how hard it must've been to hear it.
