Another question...(I am not Catholic, btw) but I was always told unless you got married in the Church it wasn't considered a "real marriage" and so you could get divorced and remarry without an annulment...also, I was told that if you married a non-Catholic that it didn't count either...and it sounds like you may not be Catholic???...Also...I would agree with you that the "stain" she is concerned with is already there...
From what I have been told by other Catholics is that if you marry in the Church it is real...and if you get divorced then you would need an annulment to remarry in the Church again...but one of the spouses would have to be non-Catholic or commit adultery...so I have been told...
