OK Rob, let ME play a bit of devil's advocate this time - read this and see what you think:
you have cranked up the GAL and talked of yourself a lot to W. When do you get to relax? Is this waht you want? W likes you "better" if you GAL more - is she going to hold a bomb over your head forever? Are you being you? Are you enjoying yourself? Do you agree with W? Or are you just changing yourself to please her?
What do you think?
Jen, thank you for playing devil's advocate. We all need to be willing to swing a loving 2x4 around here when it's called for.
To answer your questions, though, I think the important thing is that I like me better when I GAL more. I am enjoying myself, and in many ways (not all) I agree with W. The New Rob is a much funner and more interesting person than The Old Robin.
So, yes, it's good to be shaken out of the comfort zone sometimes. I would rather it was done in a different fashion, of course!
SD, W is from Springfield, MO. We do go through St. Louis on the way there and back, though!

OK - just checkin' - I thought you might answer that, just wanted to be sure that W's "complaints" (for want of a far better word) were in fact more about your R, rather than you. I got the imopression you didn't "measure up" where it is in fact it seems more like "life is better when" .. if you see what I mean?

Hey, have a good time downtown. I wish I could make it, but have to work until 8:30 PM tonight. Don't know if you've ever attended past Red, White, and Booms, but It gets pretty crowded down there and takes forever to get out of there after the fireworks.
Anyway, you sound great and looks like your taking advantage of all your opportunities with the W.

Our friends had a contact with somebody whose parking was right next to the highway exit, so getting out was a breeze. The crush of people was really intense (good thing I'm such a patient guy). The women were getting pretty PO'ed at all the "accidental" rubbing up against them - W even was pinched on the butt and she WAS NOT AMUSED.
We got to sit up in one of the tall office buildings and watch the fireworks - they were really amazing. Worth the hassle (just barely!)

It is a pretty spectacular show. Never had a problem with anyone pinching my woman's arse that I was with though. I'd take very unkindly to that behavior.
Smart being close to that freeway exit. My 4 TH of July starts tonight.
Glad to see you guys are doing things together and enjoying yourselves. Your very much a head of where many of us on here wished we could have been. However your doing it seems to be working. Keep up the good work Rob and enjoy the rest of your 4 TH!

Buddy, just keep doing for you. It seems that when she sees that is when she forgets some of her own demons. Obviously, the Rob with a life is more attractive to her. Keep it up buddy!
You know, Rob, HS is dead on here. I had MC w/my H today, and he said the same thing about me. He finds it attractive when I have friends and activities of my own as well as with him.

Doing pretty good today. Scrambling to get things wrapped up before our vacation - not sure that I'll have much online time for the next week or so.
My GAL goals for the immediate future:
1. Work hard to be outgoing and upbeat with all of the sometimes-challenging family members in my life - W, D15, my parents, my brothers, her parents, her brother. DB EVERYBODY!
2. Do some reading and planning re. my career change. Involve W in this process as much as she would like to hear about it / offer ideas (but without coming across as wanting her to take control of it! )

LOL! Oh, Rob, I soooo get it. SIL and her family are here for the next few days, and SIL is the center of the universe...
Anyway, let me suggest a tool I learned about in a writing for personal growth class I'm taking. It's called a Rampage of Appreciation. What you do is sit down and write about all the things you appreciate, admire and respect about a particular person you're having difficulties with. It helps you refocus your energy on that person's positive qualities. Does it work? All I can say is I did that for SIL before I saw her on the 4th, and I had a great time with her. H said she made a few typical remarks and rolled her eyes at him (they're VERY different people), but I totally missed all of that. I came home happy, and H came home annoyed.....
Just a thought. Have fun! Choose your reality!
