I think it is something similar to mouth in gear, mind in neutral, using a mechanics metaphor.

Or be my daddy/mommy/nanny so they don't have to be responsible. In some rare cases the power switch thing might be the caller has other things in their life that is over stressing them. I don't know the people that well personally so will not pass final judgment.

Power switches seem so basic to me but I have had to press some strange looking items a time or two. When windows went to the now standard click on [start] then click on [turn off computer], that was something I had to fumble with a few minuets before I learned the process. That is one of the hazards when working alone.

When I work with other people, I always learn new things. Not too different than on the fourm here.
