I think the taking turns idea is a smart one. Also, you said something about getting some "items" for your trip. If you aren't into toys then I hope it isn't toys you are getting. If it is just some other lingerie or "mood setter" stuff then have at it. The "Great American Sex Diet" is a cute book that has some pretty tame "spice" ideas that might be more of the kind of thing you are looking for - a little more intimate etc... but might offer sufficient "props" for him. Just a thought.
