Here's a thought.... go on over take care of the rose bed....pull a few off. Spread the petals on his bed and leave a note saying you thought he could use a bed of roses in his life right now.....

I do think that's cute in a corny, doofus sort of way and might be inclined to do it somewhere down the road.
