If he's not a morning person than no matter what he'll look like he's pursuing. So that's a tough one but a great idea nonetheless!
But I'd say not go back to bed, just be up making breakfast, offer her some and keep on fixing his own. Then proceed to make school lunch etc and possibly engage in some very light chit chat while continuing to focus on cooking and lunch preparations.
