Well I am in a similar boat with regards to an attorney. I can't afford the fees they are quoting to negotiate our separation agreement. But what he and I settled on was he will charge me the hourly rate and review and direct me as I negotiate directly with my wife. She's in a similar boat as well but the difference is she has the cash flow to pay an attorney more money. For her it just means putting off paying something else. So she at least has the luxury of robbing Peter to pay Paul. But she knows how much that is a bad idea meaning she's motivated to negotiate directly.
