Hey Ellie Just wanted to check in, I know we've not seen eye to eye on a subject in the past, but wanted to let you know what you posted on Manishas thread was right on, imho. I think you were absolutley right about the parenting,I know that one thing I was grateful about ( if you can call it that) is my ex left when Ryan was 17, he was still devastated but at least grown, cant imagine raising a child, especially a son without my H in my life, and he was/is a good father.
Anyway, I'm sorry that you were blasted at, for a very informative suggestion.
Happy Thursday, hope the practice is going well, ya know how us thyroid patents can be! lol

Thanks Karen - I'm busily working on all the last-minute details to get the new practice up and running - I shouldn't even be here right now!
Have to go to Ikea tonight for the desks and bookcases I need to assemble this weekend. Re-measured the space today and had lunch with my psuedo-partner (sharing space, not practices) and a rep for a nutritional products company who we may talk into sponsoring a monthly journal club between us and some other like-minded practitioners.
Have a to-do list as long as my arm, even though we're opening the office June 18 I don't think I'll schedule any patients until the next week, suspect I'll still have too much to do.
Met another potential patient at my hairdresser's this morning. My hairdresser has thyroid problems and every time we discuss them one of her clients turns out to have an autoimmune problem that I can help with. Maybe I should just go get my hair done every day until I accumulate enough patients!!!

thts an idea lol I tell ya though, ever since I was diagnosed almost 9 yrs ago, there is not a person I talk to that they do not have a relative or friend who also has a thryroid condition I am sure your practice will thrive, and if I ever move down south ( whichi one day is my desire) you will have one more patient!

Ellie, Just wanted to add my congrats along with everyone else. You're going to do great!!!!
My D22 also has thyroid problems. She was diagnosed at 18 and is now 22. It took a long time for her to figure out that she "had" to take the meds. Boy, she was hard headed about it. However, when she read that not taking it could make your hair thin, she was all over it!!! Vanity is her middle name!!!
I lost most all my hair before it was diagnosed! I really looked like I had been through chemo,it was so hard emotionally, so glad when we moved here my new Dr. diagnosed me asap, and now i can't keep this mane thin enough!! i love it though! not to mention sooo much more energy and gusto!

I hope this doesn't sound sarcastic, but does exposure to any certain chemicals affect thyroid function? Like chemicals used in hairdressers' salons?
I doubt it Joe, there are chemicals that can affect the thyroid, one of the worst is in our water supply according to a recent government report (perchlorate). My stylist actually uses a brand of hair dye that has fewer bad chemicals than the standard types.
I think it's less cause and more effect - people with autoimmune diseases have more hair problems (thinning, premature graying) and are more likely to go to the stylist? I know I NEVER went - even cut my own hair - until I had to start covering my premature gray. Now I have to go every two weeks unless I want to be completely gray.
And thyroid and other autoimmune diseases are rampant. Probably a combination of environmental factors, increased passing on of genes for susceptibility due to available treatment for hypothyroidism (we don't die off as quickly as we used too!), and the aging boomer generation (since midlife hormonal issues sometimes trigger dormant thyroid issues.)
LNL - She's been posting right along, look for her initials in Surviving. You have a lot of catching up to do!!! Ellie PS - she doesn't want anyone to use her name on the boards anymore.
