I was thinking about this first marriage. You know...I DBed in a way...I kept going forward with my life, I went out with friends, I didn't pursue much with the ILYs, etc. And we did maintain reasonable contact that was friendly and cooperative. And you know what? That didn't change the course at all. The difference with the second marriage was my second wife. It was the way she was that enabled us to get back together.

Yes - I think that it's not only what you do, but who you do it with (I mean working on M!) that matters.
No matter what I did in my M or after H left, I think his narcissistic tendencies would eventually have caused him to go for good. Or maybe not if I'd kept telling him how fab he was - but that wouldn't have been fair to myself.
