For me, nursing was actually an overly sympathetic response. I could never get pumps to work for me (even when my son was hospitalized and I was engorged beyond belief) but if I was watching a movie in which a baby cried, my milk would come down full force. I definitely think there is some kind of link between the ability or tendency to have different kinds of sympathetic responses such as crying, breast-feeding and sexual arousal. Of course, a lot of this has to do with cultural upbringing and personality. For instance, I have no problem with breast-feeding in public (I used to nurse my kids by hanging over their car seats on long trips much to the joy of passing truckers) or having semi-sex in semi-public (elevators, cars, hiking trails, movie theaters) but I rarely cry in public.

Karen. Congrats on the new arrival. Have fun and enjoy the new one. I'm sure you already know two important rules. 1) Remember the little ears are always on and 2) They are intelligent little guys.

Well - thanks for all the hurrahs! I was really proud of my DS - he will be a great husband someday. He seemed to grasp what needed to go on during the labor and wasn't icked out by the process at all. He WAS glad to step out for the pelvics and delivery - our family isn't quite that "earthy".
About the breastmilk issue. I nurse for a long time - at least a year but weaning before 2. Dh is bound to get a taste from time to time. Doesn't bother me and I would find it immature if it bothered him. OTOH - purposeful "nursing" by dh would weird me out. I almost always let down during sex and must wear a bra, keep a towel handy or soak dh. I have done all of the above depending on the mood.
I agree about boys being voracious nursers. My girls loved to comfort nurse. My boys go at it like it will disappear tomorrow. I forgot about the funny little grunts they make - so much like men later in life!
My body is definately sending out some "sex would be nice" signals but I have a good bit of healing to do first. I will probably be physically ready around 5 weeks or so. I usually wait almost 6 weeks and usually get revved up enough for some alternatives to sex within a few weeks.
I am feeling hopeful about the R. We'll see how things go.
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I am so glad to hear you and baby are doing well.
I think I won the bet. I did say, Sat. April 28 after midnight. Don't know if Joe showed up after midnight... but I think I was cloesest.
I think that earns me one night of free babysitting with Joe Jr., and the wonderful, nothing-like-it-baby-smell, for an elongated evening out... or an entire weekend of Auntie Corri.
Congratulations, honey!!!!!! That has got to be the MOST beautiful newborn I have ever seen. No red splotches, no funnel head... pretty hair... he is absolutely ADORABLE. OH how my hormones are SCREAMING to smell the baby smell, and cuddle and coo... (shut up everyone, I DO have a soft, mom side, believe it or not)...
I'm feeling... all soft and gushy.... and like I need to babysit...
Congrats again to you and Mr. Karen. How are you feeling?
Definitely a weightlifter. You need to get him started on bench presses right away. He doesn't need to be toddling or moving a whole lot for that yet :-)
I would tell you he is a beautiful baby, and I am sure that he his. It's just that being a guy, I can 't really tell, except for some of those really ugly ones. They kind of look all smushed up, must be some longitudinal compression that they go through in the birth process. I'm glad you got a normal one
