For me, nursing was actually an overly sympathetic response. I could never get pumps to work for me (even when my son was hospitalized and I was engorged beyond belief) but if I was watching a movie in which a baby cried, my milk would come down full force. I definitely think there is some kind of link between the ability or tendency to have different kinds of sympathetic responses such as crying, breast-feeding and sexual arousal. Of course, a lot of this has to do with cultural upbringing and personality. For instance, I have no problem with breast-feeding in public (I used to nurse my kids by hanging over their car seats on long trips much to the joy of passing truckers) or having semi-sex in semi-public (elevators, cars, hiking trails, movie theaters) but I rarely cry in public.
