Legal separation is little different from divorce, except that you're not divorced. If you plan on divorcing him, then do that - it will be less expensive than filing legal separation now and divorce later. I looked this up yesterday and found out the same thing. If D is going to happen, no sense in seperation because it just adds to the expense.... Thanks!

Do give the address in NM to the state office that is paying you aid- they deserve to be reimbursed for the money the state is paying to support hIS kids. As soon as I find an address for him I plan to give it to them. But as of right now, I have no idea what his mothers address is.
When the tax refund comes it will be in both your names (if you filed jointly). How will you get him to sign it over to you? Do you still have an account with both names on it that you could deposit it into? Actually since we filed last year (online e-file) I was able to do that again, this year without his signature. I had the money set to go into my bank account (we haven't had a joint one since we got seperated anyway). But long story short, as I figured they took it for back support and I just got my chunk of it today from the child support.

Incidentally, what did he get fired for? Drugs? Or just flakiness? He was told that he wasn't allowed to work for Schneider until he got a mental evaluation. He was having all that trouble with depression and whatnot, and it was effecting his work... so....

Thanks Amy... that means A LOT coming from you.

You know her name, city and phone number, right? That should be enough for them to go on. Give that info to the state.

Did he go for the mental evaluation?

How long will it take for you to finish this vet asst. training? And what kind of pay do those jobs offer (I thought they didn't pay much?). Think broadly about careers that would support you and your kids well in the future. You are a bright girl and very capable, I'm sure. You might visit the career counselors at your school to find out what kind of other jobs are out there that you could get training for.

If you're interested in the healthcare field, respiratory therapy can be a good job. Surgery techs also make a decent living.

Of course, if you're reasonably attractive and have people skills, waitressing (at a nice restaurant)can pay reasonably well. It's a hard job but evening hours might work for you with your kids - give you time to be with them during the day.

Then there's also the option of applying for college scholarships and just going to college full-time to get a bachelor's degree in something. How were your high school grades? Ever take the SAT? Would you likely get a good score if you studied for it? There are scholarships available for single moms, if you're a good-enough student you should look into it. Most colleges have family housing and daycare available.

I called to talk to someone today, but the guy handling my cases wasn't in today (go figure) I'll keep you posted.

Did he go for the mental evaluation? No! I told him he needed to.... but he never did.

Not really to get in the door they don't...but I was hoping to get more schooling and go higher up the list. ). Think broadly about careers that would support you and your kids well in the future. You are a bright girl and very capable, I'm sure. You might visit the career counselors at your school to find out what kind of other jobs are out there that you could get training for. My sister is going to school to be an LPN .... It's all paid for, I am trying to find a program like that in my area. Once again I'll keep you posted.

Thank YOU Frank... I couldn't have gotten here if you, Amy and countless others hadn't fought with me tooth and nail to get me over the hump and off my @$$.

I finally talked to someone from Domestics today... they are transfering the case to another county right now.
Once I see what they do there (the whole he moved thing could be a "cover-up" to try to get the case moved around a whole lot), and once I get solid info on where Kevin is I will turn in a tip as to new address info if necessary.

Emily, I adore you for laughing at my meanish question. I have read all that you have posted for quite awhile. I WORRIED for you and the girlies. {I really wanted to volunteer to hold Kevin down while he was neutered... I felt terrible when you were suffering about him.}

I think you are great. I am certain that you will live up to your good intellect.

I think you should write. Get started... you are very creative.
