I think I posted this on another thread and neglected to post it here.
I had a date. It was good in this respect: I now have an answer for the "what's the worst date you've ever been on" question.
I think, but have not confirmed this yet, that of the hundreds of men in Indiana I had to pick, for my first date the guy who has a child with my H's lawyer.
I'll be brief.
eharmony--figured I'd give it a whorl. So far, pretty slim pickins.
So I start emailing this guy from Evansville (about 3 hours away). Within a week he says he's coming to Bloomington to visit his son and did I want to get together for coffee.
I said yes.
I figure his son is a student at IU.
12:15 rolls around and I enter t coffee shop and he has a 5-month old baby in a pouch.
He's a little nerdy and shy but okay, I go with it, figure I'll get answers as to who this kid is and why he has to come here to visit him...hmmm?
We sit and chat, but not for long because the baby is fussing and hungry and tired and at 46 years old this is his first child and he'S not sure what to do. He stands and rocks until the baby drifts off to sleep.
He slowly sits and baby stays asleep thankfully.
He asks incredulously "why scuba?" like he just does not get it. The guy is a biologist, you'd think he'd have some appreciation for marine life. Turns out he's claustrophobic.
We chat about other not very interesting things and eventually I learn this about the child and the mother of the child. He visits this 5 month old baby, who is his, once a week. “We used to do it together for the first 2 weeks...” but then no further explanation after that. She won't bring the baby to Evansville he says because it is too far for the baby to be in the car. She is a lawyer (check) with a private practice in town (check) and she had a baby 5 months ago (check). Oh of all the crazy coincidences!
The Baby wakes up—aha, saved by the bell. I use it as an excuse to beat it out of there. A few days later I write an email telling him good luck but I want to close our match.
Okay, so I broke into the “dating” thing and it didn't go too well and maybe I just ain't ready. I would really like to meet someone the old fashioned way some day and I suppose it'll happen when the time is right. For now I need to appreciate all the advantages that being the master of my domain provides.
H has the kids for the weekend. Ah, I can breathe again! I'm going to clean up, make tea with honey, watch a movie, wrap myself in a blanket, make a fire and enjoy the quiet.
Oh yeah, I started my first on-line RT course for the CEU's and also made contact with the manager of the RT department in Bloomington. He seems very nice and is interested in helping me get back to work (being an RT is a good job in that you can almost always find a job). They work 12 hour shifts at the hospital here so that's only 3 days a week and it is considered full time—I think that would work out nicely for me. They seem to have a good department—they intubate and put in arterial lines and almost all their therapy is written as protocol therapy which gives the RT a lot of personal assessment responsibilities which I like (rather that becoming a treatment mill with no time to evaluate the patient or whether he even needs it). Becoming financially independant, as you say Nicola, will set me free in so many ways!
Love to all us brave souls. Althea
I’m feeling better—thanks for all your well wishes.
