That's the whole blood is thicker than water thing. I wouldn't say anything to MIL. She probably just doesn't want him "mad" at her. Besides if you have a kid that does this kind of thing it's gotta hurt (unless your slime). Personally, I'd risk my kid being mad at me, but then I've never quite been the norm.
